September 26, 2008 - an important date in history; it markes the date we finally made it out again after I'd given up all hope of ever seeing that tall, handsome, pre-dental man in fear that he'd met another tall blond and moved to Siberia or something.
It was a great date, as far as second dates go, I made sure to seal the deal by putting the touch-moo-joo on him. We went on a hike to . . . bridal-veil falls (at his sly brother Rob's recommendation) and I, to this day, don't know if he was flustered or just exceptionally clumsy or inattentive that night but he was tripping all over the place, absolutely requiring that I reach out and lend a steadying hand every now and again. Like I said, the touch sealed the deal. It was great, we bought dinner beforehand thinking a picnic on the trail would be beautiful, except that we got a bit of a late start and had to make time to the tune of using our cell phones as flash lights cuz we ran out of sun and it was DARK getting back down the trail. Scott actually carried our dinner all the way up to the falls and all the way back down after which we re-heated them at his apartment and enjoyed them and retelling our adventure to Scott's roomie Dane (a man famous in our home!).
As the touch-moo-joo worked, Scott wanted to go out the next night. We went to a movie and he executed the absolutely smoothest first time hand hold tactic I've ever been party to. After getting out of the car, he simply offered his hand and I took it - "there you go." No awkward dead fish hand hanging out there to be accepted or rejected as you dampen it with nervous sweat, we didn't even end up doing the death grip during the movie, he held my hand to and from the movie. It was a nice and pleasant experience, willingly repeated over time, and we haven't stopped enjoying holding hands.
Another date of honorable mention was the next weekend, the Friday before General Conference when I was invited to Scott's mission reunion, which was a good thing since he probably would still be wondering around Salt Lake trying to find the spot that was actually in Centerville, darned MapQuest good for nothing directions! I'm pretty sure I was the only girlfriend there, and now that I mention it, that is when I found out I was his girlfriend. When introductions happened, I wondered how he would explain my presence, and he did a marvelous job (especially as he's always called me Kimberly - I never have to worry he will introduce me as Kim and ruin my extremely determined effort to cling to my given name).
Immediately following the mission reunion, I gave Scott a week to miss me by going home to visit family during my "Law School Placement Break" otherwise known as "I get a week off from school and you-oo don't." Scott called me every night I was gone. One night it was getting late and I hadn't heard from him yet and was about to do the unpardonable and call him when he finally called and this conversation ensued:
"I'm sorry I'm so annoying, I hope you don't mind me calling you all the time"
"Oh, I was so worried you weren't going to call I was going to call you, I like that you call every night"
Which actually meant "You can call me anytime STUD! I really 'like' you!"
After that, a lot of our time together consisted of study time, which is only about 30% effective when you are making googlie eyes at each other.
Oh, first kiss story:
October 13, 2008 - the mood was right, the lights just so . . .
Scott was leaving my apartment and I gave him a hug in the entry way, when he pulled back he said "I need to tell you something" and then he kissed me. VERY GOOD TRANSITION, I'M JUST SAYING
He said that he had wanted to kiss me the night before, but my sister had been there (I had them both over to show off my cooking skills, pot roast of deliciousness - way to a man's heart - hello) and it just wasn't right so Monday night, FHE will always end in a kiss in my house!
i love hearing your side of the story!!!
